Worried About The Rain? 4 Services Your Horse Float Needs For The Wet Season

Posted on

If you own a horse float, you need to keep it in good condition. This is especially true if you use it for work purposes. Now that summer is here, this is a good time to get your horse trailer ready for wet weather. Too much water can spell disaster for your horse float. If you're not sure how to get your horse float ready for the wet season, read the list provided below. You'll find four tips to get you started.

Apply Undercoating

When it comes to protecting your horse float from water damage, it's best to start at the bottom. After all, this is where the bulk of the moisture exposure will happen. This is especially true with regard to flooded roads and potholes. Now that you're servicing your horse float for the wet season, be sure to apply fresh undercoating to the undercarriage. Undercoating will provide a waterproof barrier for your trailer. This will help to prevent rust and corrosion.

Protect The Bedliner

You're going to track a lot of mud and water into your trailer, especially during the wet season. Unfortunately, all that mud and moisture can damage the inside of your trailer. In fact, excess moisture can cause the floor of your horse float to corrode and rot. That's where a bedliner comes into the picture. If you haven't installed a bedliner in your enclosed trailer yet, now's the time to do that. If you have a bedliner already, add cleaning and repairs to your trailer service list.

Seal The Roof Vent

Your horse float will get exposed to quite a bit of rain during the wet season. That's why you need to take a close look at your roof vents. Roof vents keep the air circulating inside your trailer. The circulation helps prevent moisture damage, especially damage caused by mould growth. But without proper care, roof vents can leak. Before the rains arrive, have the roof vent serviced. This should include inspecting for signs of damage. But, it should also include applying fresh caulking around the vent. This will help protect against leaks.

Repair The Doors

When it comes to servicing your horse float for the wet season, you can't forget about the doors. Start by inspecting your doors for signs of damage. This can include dents, broken hinges, or corrosion. Any damage should get repaired right away. If the damage is beyond repair, it's a good idea to get the doors replaced as soon as possible.
